La Verne Newspaper Features A Case for Character
This January, the La Verne Community News featured two articles mentioning A Case for Character! Both articles shared how A Case for Character has impacted the Bonita Unified School District (La Verne and San Dimas schools) this past December by providing foster children in the district with brand-new suitcases.
September of 2014 launched A Case for Character’s first and longest running project, Project BUSD, partnering with the Bonita Unified School District to help give brand new suitcases to foster children within the district. A Case for Character reached out to three group foster homes in December 2014 and is continuing to partner with BUSD into the first quarter of 2015.
Below are excerpts from the articles:
Early Christmas Presents for the Kids
“Staff members and Board members of the Bonita Unified School District, which serves La Verne and San Dimas, continued their partnership with the Haynes Family of Programs yesterday by teaming up with the non-profit Forever Kids in Covina for a motivational presentation on the importance of character before presenting each of the 72 residents with a new suitcase. Mark Rodgers, Senior Director of Student Services for Bonita, told the kids they may need the suitcases for going home for the weekend or moving to a new home altogether.”*
BUSD, ULV, and City of La Verne Raise Money for Foster Students
“In addition, the Bonita Unified School District partnered with a local charity called Forever Kids on a project called Case for Character. The goal of the project was to raise enough money to provide a suitcase to each student in foster care within the Bonita District. In order to accomplish this, the project needed to raise about $7,500.
“Thanks to donations from individuals, organizations, and schools, including a large donation from the La Verne/San Dimas Educational Foundation, the project raised over $9,000. Some suitcases were delivered in December, and some will be delivered in January and beyond.”**
UPDATE: A Case for Character’s Project BUSD continued until April 2015 reaching another 150 kids.
